The Library Wine Bar & Bistro

The Library Wine Bar & Bistro is Wallingford's original town library, built in 1899. It is a combination of historic downtown Wallingford and the time-honored traditions of Portuguese and Mediterranean cuisine, including a worldwide wine selection to bring you a unique dining experience. The bar serves dinner and features a Happy Hour from Mondays to Saturdays that is available in the bar, patio, and loft. Every Wednesday there's a Ladies Night with a variety of appetizers, salads and entrees such as the Small Library Salad, Bruschetta Chicken, Portuguese Steak, Pasta Primavera, and more.

About the Bistro

Samuel Simpson was a strong political figure in Wallingford and one of his greatest contributions to the town was building the first public library. His motivation came from his daughter and her love and passion for literature. Unfortunately, she passed away at age 41 and Mr. Simpson wanted to memorialize his daughter by building the library in her honor. The Gouveia family hopes you enjoy your dining experience in one of Wallingford's most beautiful landmarks.

What to Expect

The Library Wine Bar and Bistro serves more than just wine. The menu features an entire section just for Paelha, which are the classic old-world specialties. The dessert menu has a collection of some of the most popular after-dinner drinks and spirits with many assortments of coffees and teas. Sunday brunch goes from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and offers many classic breakfast favorites such as Crème Brûlee French Toast, Corned Beef Hash and Eggs, Classic Egg Sandwich, Stuffed Waffles, Steak and Eggs, and so much more.

Beautiful restaurant located right in the heart of downtown Wallingford. Parking available right on Main St. Great wine selection. Hostess and wait staff was excellent. We were not rushed at all. The Filet Mignon was excellent. Bill is presented in a hollowed out book-nice touch. Desserts were great. I would not hesitate to return to this Library.
Unforgettable Library Visit. jmbc04, Trip Advisor
Everything was perfect - the atmosphere, the food, the service, and a great wine list. We really enjoyed the tapas and thought the portions were very generous. Many options across the menu with a lot of interesting items and combinations. Really looking forward to returning.

Went here for a wedding rehearsal dinner. What a beautiful place. The staff is very professional and willing to go the extra mile for guests. The food was spectacular and there was more than enough for even the hardiest appetite.
